City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK)Professor Freddy Boey is President and University Distinguished Professor of City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK). Prior to this, he served as Deputy President of Innovation and Enterprise at the National University of Singapore, and Provost and Chair of the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Nanyang Technological University. He is a recipient of Singapore’s prestigious President’s Science & Technology Medal and Imperial College London’s Faculty of Medicine Fellowship award, both for his biomedical research. Since becoming President of CityUHK in 2023, Professor Freddy Boey has led the University’s transformation, resulting in significant global recognition. CityUHK is ranked among the top 100 universities worldwide in four major international rankings: Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), Times Higher Education (THE), U.S. News & World Report, and ShanghaiRanking. Regionally, the University has achieved a top 10 position in Asia, according to QS. In addition, CityUHK was named the “Most International University in the World” by Times Higher Education in 2024 and 2025, underscoring its global outlook and diverse academic community. To prepare CityUHK for the next few decades, he has established several research and academic institutions, including the Institute of Digital Medicine and the Hong Kong Institute of AI for Science, and the Institute of Future Learning. In addition, he has infused the CityUHK campus with his philosophy on learning-centric education by extending international collaborations with top universities around the world and initiating global talent schemes and Flagship Programmes. These initiatives have resulted in CityUHK receiving the highest number of undergraduate applications for the 2025/26 academic year in Hong Kong, China.
